It feels like we're getting a scam phone call, email, or even text messages every day. These emails and texts typically give you a reason to click on a link to take you either to a place to pay a fine that doesn't actually exist or to try and get you to use your log-in so that they can steal it from you and access your personal information. Sadly, many people fall for these scams, and that's why these criminals exist.

Scam Call Gone Wrong

I remember calling back the "IRS" from the radio station phone so that I could record it. The guy answered and told me I was about to be arrested if I didn't pay my fine. I then told him I knew he was full of it and that he was live on the radio. He proceeded to break his character and cuss me out like the moron that he was. That story had a funny ending, but not all people know when something is real or fake, and sadly get taken major advantage of.

Traffic Cam Scam Email Going Around Colorado

This morning, I received this email at my Townsquare email:

Big Rob TSM

It looks fairly legit, but some things tipped me off to it being bogus right away. One, if it says Robert, why would they put "Mr./Ms."? Also, how would this random traffic camera company know to email me at my work email? It's still relatively new, and I don't use it for anything personal like my vehicle etc. They did have my full name, which I don't use at work, so that was enough to make me Google this scam just to be sure...

Red Light Traffic Scam

It turns out it's been a running scam since at least 2019, and clearly, countless people have fallen for it as it continues to scare people into paying a fine that isn't real four years later. Multiple media reports, including a fellow Townsquare co-worker in Rockford, got the exact same email. Please do not fall for this; it is, in fact, a total scam. Sure, you may have run a red light on that day, but this place is not who you should be paying.

Top Ways To Avoid Being Scammed To Share With Loved Ones

The Federal Trade Commission has some great advice on avoiding scams on the phone and through emails and texts, here. If it seems fishy, it probably is, so take the time to investigate. Never act on anyone or anything trying to collect a fine without looking into it further. These criminals sadly target young and older people, so make sure you share this important information with those around you to protect them and yourselves.

22 Unwritten Colorado Rules That All Centennial Staters Know

There are a handful of "rules" you need to know before settling down in Colorado. These are rarely discussed in public. For the most part, they are simply known. Some are quirky, others a bit fussy. Put simply, there are things one needs to know when living in a geographically large state with high elevations, drastic temperature changes, and no tolerance for traffic.

Here's a quick look at 22 "unwritten rules" we live by in Colorado, courtesy of Ranker and Only In Your State.
