Have you stopped by the Montrose Habitat for Humanity Restore? So many gently used items. I've seen couches for as low as $50.00, Kitchen items, clothes, and more.

Did you know there is so much more to Habitat for Humanity?

They build homes for Veterans and families that meet income qualifications. The homes are below market value. Thirty to eighty percent of your annual; income to qualify. They serve the working class. A hand up, not a hand out.

What are some other qualifications?

Ability to pay the loan back. Also, a willingness to help with the build and 250 hours of sweat equity is required. There also has to be the need for a home or housing. It's a case by case. A committee meets and evaluates that need.

What does the restore do?

Every dollar that comes into the Restore is used for building homes. Volunteers are always needed. Donations of clothing, furniture, and kitchen appliances all help. Donations are 10-2 p.m. Monday thru Saturday at the restore.

There are programs for veterans as well. There is a triplex in construction in Ridgway. It will be completed soon. They also have a repair program, and a brush with kindness. That helps senior citizens and anyone who qualifies for painting, landscaping work, and fence repair. Basic needs to keep your house up.

They have also recently purchased land from the Boys and Girls Club and will be breaking ground on more triplexes in the up and coming months. I want to thank Amanda and Whitney for spending the time to let us know more about Habitat for Humanity. You can check out their website at buildinglives.org.
