Colorado Town of Only 27 People Just Had a Big Lottery Winner
Have you ever gotten something via certified mail? It's usually not good news, but in this circumstance, it was the total opposite. The woman even thought the whole thing was a hoax, but it was legit, and a very big windfall.
You have to wonder how many people it takes to be considered a "town," but this one near the Colorado/Wyoming border is definitely tiny. With her winnings, this woman can try to keep it a secret, but it's probably not possible.
There were two jackpots available for the $10 "100X The Cash" scratch game that the Colorado was holding. The odds of winning the big prize were 1 in 1,080,000, the odds of winning via the 'Second Chance" drawing aren't very clear, but that won't matter to this winner from one of Colorado's terribly small towns.

According to People, the Colorado Lottery had to track this woman, Joanie, down via certified mail because she didn't have anything on file with the lottery. The ended tracking her down to her town of 27, Cowdrey, Colorado. Cowdrey is about nine miles north of Walden, and about 15 miles south of the Wyoming border.
Cowdrey is about a 2-hour drive to Fort Collins, the nearest place where Joanie could collect he "Big" check for $250,000. When it's a quarter of million dollars, it's definitely worth the trip. I wonder if Joanie really took the big check; it's hard to keep your win a secret when you have a big check in your passenger seat.
Apparently, Joanie will be buying some more alpacas with a part of her winnings. Who doesn't love alpacas?
