Outpost Sunsport Owner Walks Away After 50 Years in Fort Collins
The longtime owners of Outpost Sunsport - located at 931 E. Harmony Road - are hanging up their proverbial skis, so to speak. Randy Morgan and his wife Nancy have sold the business to a 3-person group out of Montana, led by Riley Siddoway, whose parents live in Colorado. Siddoway is an avid outdoorsman himself and runs a similar business in Montana. He says it will be business as usual at Outpost Sunsport, for both customers and staff as the ownership transition occurs.
Morgan has owned the legendary, local outdoor sports outlet for longer than most can remember. Originally taking a job part time at the store while a student at CSU in 1973, he invested in the store becoming part owner in 1976, and bought out his partners to own 100% of the store in 1987. He then moved it from downtown Fort Collins to its current location in 1996.
In addition to being the go-to local spot for ski and snowboard gear each season - and patio furniture the rest of the year, for what its worth - Outpost Sunsport has proudly brought each year's new installment of Warren Miller films to the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins.
Even though Miller himself passed away in 2018, the films have continued. The newest film plays November 11, again at the Lincoln Center.
I personally used to have the honor of emceeing those films for several years back in the 2000's, doing intros and giveaways during intermission, and of course experiencing the unofficial kick off to winter with some epic skiing and boarding action on the big screen each year. Back then, they used to do two showings a day over multiple days, and I can tell you from first hand experience, it was a pretty solid party each and every night. You've never heard people cheer so much watching a movie. It was always a lot of fun.
Thus closes a long chapter of ownership for another Fort Collins staple. Both Randy and Nancy Morgan have been heavily involved in the community during their time with Outpost Sunsport, being involved in numerous non-profit organizations and projects over many decades. Best of luck to them as they begin their next adventures!
