CDOT Reports Drop in 100 Deadliest Days Impaired Deaths
Summer in Colorado is a great time of year. It's warm, the sun is shining, and people are out doing so many different things. Summer in Colorado is also very dangerous, as this time of year is one of the deadliest for drivers on the roadways.
Colorado Sees Fewer Impaired Driving Deaths This Summer
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, also known as the 100 deadliest days, there were 82 deaths involving suspected impairment recorded by the Colorado Department of Transportation in 2025. As we go into Labor Day Weekend, we all need to be aware of the possible dangers of driving impaired.

As of Thursday, September 3, 2026, there have been 37 deaths involving suspected impairment. While the number is much better than in 2025, that is still a high number of deaths due to possible impairment in Colorado during the summer months.
Colorado’s 100 Deadliest Days Still Claimed 37 Lives
2026 is the year of the most improvement over the past five years, with 72 deaths from January to June. That is a 28.7 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2025. 2022, 2023, and 2025 all had triple-digit traffic fatalities from January through June with suspected impairment. 2024 came close to triple digits with 97 confirmed deaths on Colorado roads.
Labor Day DUI Enforcement Is Underway in Colorado
The Colorado State Patrol, along with 20 local law enforcement agencies across Colorado, will be implementing "The Heat is On" crackdowns on impaired driving starting Thursday, September 3, 2026, through September 9.
