It has been announced that a new, automated system that uses cameras to detect speeding and other motor vehicle infractions has been implemented in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

As of Thursday, November 20, 2025, there are five cameras in Glenwood Springs that are actively detecting speeding and other motor vehicle infractions.

One is located east of Dairy Queen along I-70, another is at South Glen Avenue south of McDonald’s on the south end of town, another is west of Midland Avenue, also on the south end of town, and two are located on either side of Midland Avenue near Two Rivers Park and Yampah Mountain High School.

Why Are There New Cameras in Glenwood Springs, Colorado?

The new system, which was first announced 30 days prior to implementation, was put into place in order to cut down on speeding in the Colorado mountain town. The locations were determined due to factors including high numbers of reported crashes and instances of reckless driving, as well as input from community members.

What Happens if the Cameras in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Detect Speeding?

Suppose the cameras detect that a motor vehicle is travelling at excessive speeds. In that case, they will take a photograph of the vehicle, recording the speed, the vehicle’s license plate number, and the date, time, and location of the infraction.

Suppose an infraction is detected, and this information is collected. In that case, a citation will be mailed to the address linked to the vehicle’s registration, and the owner of the vehicle will be responsible for paying the fines, regardless of who is driving the vehicle at the time of the infraction. It should also be noted that these infractions do not affect points on the vehicle owner’s driver’s license, and no information is reported to insurance companies or the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles.
