A ski resort in Western Colorado just announced they'll remain open a little longer than expected. As it turns out, they're not alone. Thanks to an abundance of snow, several Colorado slopes have announced they'll push back their closing dates for the season.

Some of these Colorado resorts are enjoying the longest ski seasons in their history. One resort has announced an extra week of skiing, while another resort plans to remain open well into May 2023.

Colorado's Extended Ski Season 2023

Powderhorn Resort just outside of Grand Junction, Colorado, posted this statement on March 27, 2023:

Over 28 feet of total season snowfall, base depth of over 100 inches, and our longest open season on record – all good things have to come to an end, but we’re not ready just yet! We’re stoked to announce that Powderhorn is EXTENDING the Winter 22-23 Season through Sunday, April 9!

Copper Mountain's Longest Season In 25 Years

Copper Mountain issued a press release on March 15, 2023, announcing plans to extend the season for an additional two weeks. The release stated:

Thanks to consistent snowfall and a strong base, Copper plans to extend its season for two additional weeks, weather and conditions permitting. The resort’s new planned closing day is Sunday, May 7, 2023, positioning the resort to have its longest season in 25 years.

Steamboat Springs, Colorado

According to 9News, Steamboat Ski Resort announced it too will extend its 2022-2023 season. The resort said the season will continue until Sunday, April 16, 2023. Looking back on Steamboat Ski Resort's history, this is only the third time they've extended the season. To put things into perspective, back in 1993 they extended the season by one week, while in 2007 the season was extended by one day.

That Was The Good News

Now for the bad news. Several slopes in Colorado are choosing to stick to the plan and honor their scheduled closing dates. In most cases, those dates are coming up between April 2 and 16.

A handful of slopes including Vail, Winter Park, and Purgatory, are scheduled to end their season on April 23, 2023.
