If things seem a bit different north of 25 Road and Patterson Road lately, it’s not your imagination. Grand Junction is in the middle of a major road work makeover along the Four Canyons Parkway, designed to ease traffic and prepare residential neighborhoods for long-term growth.

Following the Phase 1 ribbon-cutting, a four-lane stretch between 24 Road and 24 ½ Road has shifted to Phase 2. Crews will now install utilities and build roadway between 24 ½ Road and 25 Road, before extending toward Patterson. Construction is expected to continue until the end of 2026.

Four Canyons Parkway is the planned four-lane road on the west end of town, and provides a timely connection between 24 Road and 25 Road. This connection provides relief to Patterson Road and the surrounding neighborhood streets (North Grand Junction/Appleton). Phase 1 of the project, completed between 24 and 24 ½ Road, already added a new roundabout and signalized intersection to increase safety.

The name of the project comes from the local scenery. Drivers can see four nearby canyons from Four Canyons Parkway as it winds its way through some of the fastest-growing parts of town.

Project Phases & Current Work

The second phase of the Four Canyons Parkway project began in January of 2026, and focuses on utility installation and roadwork between 24 ½ and 25 Road, toward Patterson Road. Work will be completed in rotating segments, with local detours and access for homes and businesses. Utilities will be placed first, then the new roadway, then intersection improvements. Crews plan to complete the work in segments, so traffic impacts remain spread out.

The Four Canyons Parkway Project isn’t just another construction zone; it’s an essential future-focused corridor upgrade. Four Canyons is designed to relieve congestion on Patterson Road as residents leave their neighborhoods, all while accommodating Grand Junction’s growth to the west. The project includes plans for safer intersections, added lanes, and updated utilities and sidewalks. Grand Junction is building the parkway with room for future expansions, as the city can one day add lanes or features as traffic demand increases.
