The Colorado High School Activities Association football playoffs continue this weekend with round three action featuring high-stakes matchups for Montrose (No. 2 in 4A), Durango (No. 4), and Palisade (No. 3 in 3A).

Home-field advantage is at stake this weekend as teams attempt to make the quarterfinals and keep the Western Slope’s title hopes alive. Keep scrolling for a round 2 recap and a preview of the matchups ahead.

We watched as two familiar Western Slope teams fell during the second round of the postseason last week, as Grand Junction and Eagle Valley both fell in the second round. Eagle Valley lost at home to Lutheran 31-15, while Grand Junction traveled to the Front Range to play Heritage (Littleton, CO) and lost 42-13.

The three remaining Western Slope powerhouse teams include the Palisade Bulldogs, the Durango Demons, and the Montrose Red Hawks.

In 4A, Montrose (No. 2 seed) moves on to the Elite 8 and will host the 7 seed, Monarch High School (Boulder, CO), on 11/22 at 1 PM. Just down the 550 from Montrose, the Durango Demons (No. 4 seed) will host the 5 seed Heritage Eagles.

In the 3A, the Palisade Bulldogs continue to impress after a hard-fought 27-24 win over Timnath at Stocker Stadium to advance to the next round. Palisade (No. 3 seed) will host the 6 seed Roosevelt on 11/22 at 1 PM at Stocker Stadium.

Robert Grant Photos : Classic Images of Western Colorado Football

After years of collecting and digitizing Western Colorado photographer Robert Grant's prints, it was thought they had all been turned over to Grand Junction's Museum of the West. Well, after a little housekeeping over the Labor Day weekend, three more boxes of prints were found.
