The race either celebrates Colorado's love of fitness or flies in the face of it; a long distance while consuming food.

Sometimes a person in Colorado tells their friends that they're going to do a 5K, and their friends are shocked: "A 5K? That's so tough!" Other Coloradans tell their friends about this particular event, and their friends beg them to seek help.

It takes a lot of training to to a run that's over 30 miles; it takes another type of training, entirely to do one that has you eating along the way.

A lot of times, a person has something happen in their lives that has them getting ready to attempt their very first 5K (3.2 miles.) Maybe a breakup, a health diagnosis, the doctor telling them that they're on the fast track to a short life. Whatever the reason, 5Ks can be a lot of fun as well as good fitness.

Many people laugh at the idea of a "short" 5K, they like to get out there for miles and miles on end: Half-marathons, full marathons, even ultramarathons (which are distance beyond a 26-mile marathon.) One ultramarathon in Colorado is completely crazy.
