The Denver Broncos officially kicked off their 2024 season and the biggest takeaway after the loss was pretty clear. We Denver Broncos fans need to chill out when it comes to how quick we are to bury our team.

Why Denver Broncos Fans Need To Chill Out After Week One

Born and raised in Denver Colorado, I've been a Broncos fan since before I even had a choice. My dad and grandpa were day one die-hards and they'd be sure that I was raised the same way.

While I remember very little about the late 80's Super Bowl heartbreaks, I do remember when John Elway took this team, with the help of an incredibly talented cast, to the promise land back-to-back in the 1997 and 1998 seasons, bringing Denver its first two Super Bowl Championships.

How Was John Elway's Rookie Season With The Broncos?

John Elway was the Broncos' savior, taking us to five Super Bowls, and winning two of them in his time at QB. While it's easy to assume that Elway was a smoking gun as a rookie starting Quarterback, that simply wasn't the case.

When Elway, who was the last QB to be named the starter as a rookie in game one, was so bad in that first game that he was benched. He didn't even get to finish the game.

I remind you of this because Bo Nix, the first QB to start as a rookie since John Elway, and also the first rookie to be named Captain since Floyd Little in 1967, struggled in his first start for the Broncos over the weekend in Seattle.

Bo Nix Is The Future Of Denver Broncos Football. Be Patient

To get your first NFL start, on the road, in one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL, with a lights-out defense, you're probably going to have a rough day, regardless of how good you are. Most normal and sane Broncos fans assumed just that.

Those who get that Bo is going to need some time to get rolling weren't surprised by what we saw in game one, but were disappointed. Not just at Bo's slow start, but at the reaction from Broncos Country not even halfway through the kid's first NFL start.

If the "fans" who were burying Bo's first NFL game were the decision-makers of John Elway, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and even Maholes, they may have all been benched in their first season, which sounds insane, right?

Would it have been nice to see Bo come out looking as fantastic as he did in pre-season? Absolutely! But, he'd not had to play against a starting NFL defense, with guys who get paid millions to chase QBs down and knock them on their butts in a matter of seconds. He simply didn't seem prepared for it.

Some of that falls on the coaching staff, but Bo didn't place the blame on anyone but himself in the post-game interview, which to many in Broncos Country, shows that this young man is the guy, he just needs a little time to get things rolling.

Peyton Manning set and still holds the single-season record for most interceptions thrown by a rookie QB. He threw 28 interceptions in his rookie year. Imagine if the Colts fans got to decide his fate based on that first season.

The bottom line is that we're only one game in, and we as a fanbase have to calm down on Bo. I get it, we've been a dumpster fire in many ways over the last eight seasons, but if we give up on this kid after 30 minutes of football, and can't stand with him at his lowest, we sure as heck don't deserve to stand with him when he gets dialed in. We Bo-lieve. Go Broncos!

Jersey Numbers the Denver Broncos No Longer Use

These jersey numbers hold special reverence to the team and thus aren't allowed to be worn any longer. When longtime fans see these numbers they say, "He was the best!" "The GOAT!" "They couldn't have done it, without him!"
