Colorado springs and summers often come with road construction; a project in Fort Collins will mean a closure lasting at least eight months.

Will Trilby Road at College Avenue Be Closed Until Summer of 2026?

The City of Fort Collins announced in late June of 2025, that on the first Monday of July of that year, they'd begin working on the intersection of Trilby Road and College Avenue (Highway 287.) The city stated that to do the work, they'd need to shut down Trilby Road at College, completely, until spring of 2026.

There's no telling how many people use Trilby Road to get from the west side of Fort Collins to the east side, every day. It must be tens of thousands, weekly, without question. This project had gone through several years of planning; hopefully the thorough planning will mean a lesser chance of any delays in the project's completion.

What Will the Trilby/College Intersection Look Like When the Project is Complete?

  • TWO Left turn lanes to get onto Trilby from College.
  • Right turn lanes for all directions of traffic.

Other Major Roads Will Bear the Weight of Trilby Road Detours

The city will be having traffic detour to, what are already highly busy, Harmony Road and Shields Avenue; along with Lemay Avenue and Carpenter Road:

  • All traffic on Trilby needing to travel east/west across College/U.S. Highway 287 will be detoured to Harmony Road via Shields or Lemay.
  • All eastbound traffic on Trilby needing to travel north on College/U.S. Highway 287 will detour via Lemay and Harmony to reach College/U.S. Highway 287.
  • All eastbound traffic on Trilby needing to travel south on College/U.S. Highway 287 will detour via Lemay and Carpenter Road (State Highway 392) to reach U.S Highway 287.
  • All westbound traffic on Trilby needing to travel north on College/U.S. Highway 287 will detour via Shields and Harmony to reach College/U.S. Highway 287.
  • All westbound traffic on Trilby needing to travel south on College/U.S. Highway 287 will detour via Shields and West 57th Street in Loveland to reach U.S. Highway 287.

I feel for the neighborhoods near Trilby and College; this is going to be a real hassle for three, possibly four seasons of Colorado weather.
