
2026 Brings Something New to Rocky Mountain National Park
When you think about all the nature-loving visitors to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, it does seem to be a long-overlooked situation; at least it's fixed. For the first time, many visitors to the park who'd been overlooked, will now be recognized.

It's crazy to think that over 4 million people visit Rocky Mountain National Park every year; of course those who travel along Highway 34 heading into Estes Park can attest that there are a lot of vehicles. When you think about all of those visitors, you would have to agree that there are a number of those visitors that subscribe to a plant-based diet. For all these years, vegan-vegetarian visitors to the park's Café at Trail Ridge have been unable to find any menu items for themselves.
Trail Ridge Road Leads to New Menu Items at Rocky Mountain National Park
Generally, from Memorial Day Weekend in May until mid-October, when Trail Ridge Road is open, the Alpine Visitors Center is open as well. Starting with the 2026 season, the operators of that cafe, Xanterra Travel Collection (who also operate cafes and more at other national parks across the country) will have 50% of their menu items catered to those looking for plant-based dining, and those that may be lactose-intolerant.
An Astoundingly Long Time Ignoring Park Patrons Needs
This addition/change to the menu at RMNP's cafe is the first of its kind for the park since the National Park Service has had concessions (which dates all the way back to 1870.) Clearly, this is something that many of the 4 million+ visitors to RMNP will whole-heartedly embrace, and it's long overdue.
