California’s Haunted Gems: Fort Humboldt State Park, Preston Castle, And Bodie State Historic Park
The ever-present feeling of someone long deceased is a rush that many search for and one of the best places to do so in the U.S. is California.
These places are no Disney Land and if you do hear the screams of children, it’s not the fun kind.
Here are some of the most haunted places in California that aren’t Alcatraz.
Fort Humboldt State Park
Visit California said that this place is home to a deceased commander who died in 1897 from malaria. He likes to stare out of hospital windows at hiker passing by.
Preston Castle
Though there aren’t any “known” spirits haunting this place there are certain to be some creepy sightings. This was a reform school that allowed corporal punishment and toxic dunking baths. There is also a housekeeper who is said to have been murdered at the site.
Bodie State Historic Park
A gold-rush town that was never demolished or changed. 100 buildings span the state park along with the spirits of dead prospectors. Also, don’t take anything home from this place or you might get cursed.
Winchester Mystery House
Belonging to the maker of the Winchester Rifle, this place is said to be haunted by the victims of the creation. There is also a door that doesn’t lead anywhere and a staircase to the ceiling. Sarah Winchester supposedly designed the house in that way to confuse the ghosts.
Point Sur Lighthouse
This lighthouse has been around since 1889 off the coast of Big Sur. Some believe the original lighthouse keeper still hangs around in uniform. You can even get a “moonlight” tour of the place if you want to!
