Montrose, Colorado Resident Wins June 2024 Hometown Heroes Award
Gerald Hoey, of Montrose, was the June 2024 winner of the Hometown Heroes Award, sponsored by 1776 Contractors in Delta and Montrose.
The Hometown Heroes contest was started by 1776 Contractors and Townsquare Media to honor local unsung heroes for worthy acts of kindness they’ve performed in their respective communities.
Gerald was nominated by his daughter, Janet Dukart, and here’s what she had to say about him:
In every community, there are individuals who go above and beyond to make a difference. Gerald Hoey is a true hometown hero whose unwavering dedication and service has left an indelible mark on the Montrose community. In his career in law enforcement, Gerald has exemplified what it means to serve and protect. But his contributions extend far beyond law enforcement, as he has also been a champion for various organizations and causes close to his heart.
Gerald Hoey's journey as a public servant began in Dove Creek, where he served as the Town Marshall. During his time there, he displayed exceptional leadership skills, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. His dedication to maintaining law and order was evident, and it laid the foundation for his future endeavors.
Continuing his commitment, Gerald transitioned to the Montrose Sheriff's Department, where he served as Undersheriff and continued to help maintain peace and security. His passion for community welfare and his ability to connect with people allowed him to build strong relationships, fostering a sense of trust between law enforcement and the residents of Montrose.
Rising through the ranks, Gerald eventually became the Chief of Police of Montrose, a position that demanded vision, integrity, and a deep understanding of the community's needs. Under his leadership, the Montrose Police Department flourished, implementing innovative strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
Gerald Hoey's dedication to the Montrose community extended far beyond his professional duties. He has been an ardent supporter of organizations such as 4-H and FFA, recognizing the importance of fostering the growth and development of youth. By actively participating in these organizations, Gerald has helped shape the future of countless young individuals, empowering them to reach their full potential.
Additionally, Gerald has selflessly volunteered for Meals on Wheels, delivering nourishment and companionship to those in need. His kind-heartedness and willingness to lend a helping hand have brightened the lives of many, reminding us all of the power of compassion and community support.
Furthermore, Gerald's involvement with the Republican Party showcases his commitment to civic engagement and the democratic process. By dedicating his time and energy to this political cause, he has played an active role in shaping the future of his community, ensuring that voices are heard and represented.
