Despite their status as 'man's best friend', there are still entirely too many dogs without homes in the United States. Luckily, there are also plenty of great organizations that have dedicated themselves to the mission of solving that exact problem. It's not a perfect system, but at least we can find some of these dogs homes.

That's where adoption comes in. If you're looking to add a pooch to the family, adoption can get you what you're looking for while also helping to find some good dogs homes they wouldn't have otherwise. It's a popular practice and a great way to help; and nowhere is that more true than our very own state of Colorado.

A new study from has found that Colorado is the state most-likely to adopt a dog, no doubt sending cheers throughout the mountain canine community. They came to this conclusion based on how often we collectively searched for the terms, "dog adoption" since 2020, as well as how many of those dogs that had been searched for actually ended up being adopted. Those numbers were divided by population to determine a final score.

Per the study, Colorado takes the prize with an overall score of 97 out of 100. The closest states to us on this list, Nevada and Arizona, were tied for second place with scores of 87. As you can see, there's quite the gap between us. Rounding out the top five were New Mexico and Kansas, with scores of 84 and 67, respectively. I must admit, I find it a little disheartening that a score of 67 is enough for placing in the top five, but it's better than South Dakota's last place score of 7.
